Dog Treats Gone Wild

cute dog cupcakes

scottish terrier cupcakesI would like to take a moment of silence to appreciate the cuteness of these cupcakes….. I almost don’t even want to eat them, but my sweet tooth is winning this battle. An extra mile in my daily run should take care of these, right?

Seeing these made me stop to think to myself… “When our dogs see treats that resemble another dog, and we eat those treats, do our dogs think we might eat them, too?” I mean, they do think that everything they see is something they can snack on, but they’re familiar with what another dog looks like. A friend of mine, her dog decided that her pill bottles looked delicious and ate a good *lick* full of whatever it was in the bottles. Poor thing was throwing it all up throughout the night at the vet clinic.

I do, however, give major credit to those amazingly creative people that put so much effort into these kinds of detailed treats. (If that is you, then you get a round of applause!) Because I will be the first to admit that they will look like a toddler decided to give the snacks a good pat-down and that was the end result.

We may go all out for our meals and desserts, but have you ever gone all out for your dog’s meals and/or treats? There is a new trend called “Barkuterie”. I know you can guess what that is………

Charcuterie Board for Dogs

louie the pug

Instead of cheese, crackers, salami, and all sorts of different delinquencies in the human version, it’s a beautiful spread of dog-friendly goodies. To name a few items that could be used would include apple slices, banana slices, cucumbers, greek yogurt, sweet potato. You can create them yourselves at home, or you could look up a barkuterie shop in your area. There are some out there, trust me, I know what you were just thinking.

I do love me a good charcuterie board, with a glass of wine in my hand and a beautiful view to admire. I haven’t tried the barkuterie yet……. But I will now and I know Louie will be more than ecstatic and over the moon for it.
